About Us

Badminton: A game with rackets in which a small ball with a cone of feathers attatched (known as a shuttlecock)  is hit back and forth across a net.

Liverpool John Moores University Badminton Club boasts one of the highest number of members in the university and you can be part of it. Whatever your ability, we’ve welcomed social players taking part just for the fun and competitive players all with varying levels of experience.

Whether you want to play for exercise, to socialise or to compete on behalf of the university, then we’re the club for you!

Where and When

LJMU’s home sporting venue is IM Marsh Sports Centre which is around a 30 minute bus ride from the City Centre and a 12 minute train journey from various Liverpool City Centre stations.

Session times are as follows:

Tuesday 8pm – 10pm - designated training session for LJMU teams

Friday 5pm – 8pm – Club Sessions

Sunday 2pm – 4pm – Club Session

If you are unsure about where to go and how to get there, on the first few sessions of the first semester members of committee will be able to meet you at the bus stop and train station and take you to the venue.

Why you should join us

Members of LJMU Badminton will be a welcome part of a very strong group of students!

Socials – For many the social side of joining a sports club at university is incredibly important and we don’t disappoint. The Social Secretary is responsible for organising events at least once every two weeks. These include; nights out, meals/drinks after training, movie-nights at the local FACT Picturehouse and many more “one-off” events.

Club Sessions – Running every Friday 5pm-8pm and every Sunday 2pm-4pm, these sessions provide time for players of all levels to have matches with each other in either a singles or doubles format and produces a sociable atmosphere for all members. It also provides a chance for players to improve their game and confidence if their aim is to represent the university on one of our teams.

Compete – LJMU competes every Wednesday in the British Universities and Colleges Sport League (BUCS). As a university we have entered a Mens 1st Team, Mens 2nd Team and Ladies 1st Team for the 2016/17 league. To be able to represent LJMU against other universities in the country is a brilliant opportunity and as a result, all potential team players will be chosen from those individuals who attend the two trial dates (TBA). These trials will not be anything to worry about, they will just involve both singles and doubles match play to determine your ability and more importantly give you a chance to show us what you’ve got!
