Welcome to the Liverpool Hindu Society, a chapter of the National Hindu Students' Forum.
Firsty, congratulations on getting into university! Liverpool is a great place to be and I hope you’re looking forward to coming here. As you may be aware university life is not just about studying, the pressure of our course is such that it is good to have other hobbies and Liverpool Hindu Society is a great place to start!
We are a growing society and host a number of large events throughout the year, including the eagerly anticipated diwali ball. This was one of the stand out events of last year, with over 500 guests, a surprise breakdance performance and a great deal of dancing to cheesy bollywood tunes. It was truly a night to remember! Other big events in our calendar include Holi and the NHSF national sports tournament, where hundreds of hindus get together to compete in netball, football and khabaddi (Indian sumo wrestling). We also have a week dedicated to raising money for charity every year so there is lots of scope for imagination and getting involved.
Have you ever wondered why we don’t eat beef or why there are so many gods? We hold smaller workshops for anyone who is interested in learning about hindu principles, or discussing some of the more controversial issues facing young British Asians today. It can be overwhelming being a fresher in a university of thousands of students and our events are a great way to make friends on other courses and in other years.
So if you want your university experience to be more than reading books day and night then join hindu soc, we welcome anyone and everyone!
regards,
Sanjay Patel
