Course Reps
Liverpool Students' Union exists to make the student voice at LJMU loud and clear!
We’re here to train, support and encourage students to have an opinion about how to make their University, Union and city better.
Our elected Officers, student leaders and staff work with decision-makers, like the Vice Chancellor and your Programme Leaders, to help them know what students think before they do anything, so that they always act in the best interests of students.
Students come to university to learn, and to improve their knowledge and life experience. This means that the University must be of the highest quality and provide all the opportunities that students need. The cost of your university experience is also high - and getting higher! This means that you should be getting what you pay for. Liverpool Students' Union is here to make sure that students get what we need, deserve and expect - after all, the University would cease to exist without students.
We organise our work through volunteer Course Reps. Every programme at LJMU has a Course Rep who
- talks to students on the programme about what they love or need to be different about their education.
- talks to Programme Leaders and Liverpool Students' Union's Student Voice Co-ordinators so that people with the power to make things different are aware of what students think.
- attend a monthly session with other Course Reps at a Welcome Event at the beginning of the Academic Year and are encouraged to attend the Better University Forum.
- attends a termly Board of Study meeting, to formally put student issues on the record, receive answers to student questions and scrutinise information about how external experts think the programme is running, to see if it is accurate
Course Reps are supported by full-time LiverpoolSU staff. Their job, as Student Voice Co-ordinators, is to make sure that you have expert advice on how to talk to students and who is best to talk to about their views, as well as making sure that their opinions are inputted into senior decision makers at the University.
