Club/Society of the Month

Welcome Club & Society of the month!

February 2017

Club of the Month- Handball

While there was a lot of fabulous sport happening in February, the Club of the Month has been awarded to Handball! The same weekend the SU was out supporting our athletes at the BUCS nationals, handball were in Nottingham for their national tournament reppin #teamLJMU (even in some official Uni of Nottingham promo pics!). They have had a consistent and creative social media presence, including Bobby the bear- who has his very own teamLJMU T-shirt! The team members are friendly, welcoming and seriously hard-working. Keep up the good work and enjoy £70 towards your future development!

Society of the month- Table Top Gaming

Table Top Gaming has had great success this year as a society. They have increased their membership by 25 members, gained two sponsors and held many more creative events and excursions than in previous years. In February, they worked together as a society and bought 8 new games, meaning they now offer over 28 board and role playing games for students to get involved with. They are an open and friendly society who communicate positively with the SU staff and we are very pleased to award them £70 as Society of the month for February!

January 2017

Club of the Month- Netball

January was really successful for our netball team who raised £288 through their netball fundraiser involving teams from across LJMU. They’ve fostered a great working relationship with staff at LiverpoolSU so far this year and we want them to continue to do amazing things! We’re putting £70 into your club account to spend on developing your club even further!

Society of the month- Drama

January was a quiet month, but that doesn’t mean our volunteers haven’t been working hard. The LJMU Drama Society have been busy planning and prepping for their showcase coming up in March. Hard work and dedication extends from the committee to every individual member. They’re a brand new society this year, but they’ve already achieved a lot in their first semester! Well done Drama enjoy the £70!

December 2016

Club of the Month- Men's Hockey

Men’s Hockey ended last semester on a high, with both their first and second teams topping the league. They started off the new year just as well with their social media communications inviting new members and encouraging involvement. They’ve had great communications with our Student Group Coordinators and VP Activities, keeping LiverpoolSU up to date with everything they are doing. As well as this, a number of their members are running the ½ marathon to raise money for charity. Congrats on an amazing first semester, and we want you to continue being great in 2017!

Society of the Month- Comedy Society

Comedy Society had an amazing end to the year, raising £245 for KIND with their Christmas Stand-up night. The committee are fantastic, keeping LiverpoolSU informed about all of their activities, and working tirelessly to increase their membership over the course of the semester (they increased their membership by an impressive 20 members from October to December). We hope you continue to be amazing in 2017!

November 2016

Club of the Month- Rowing

This month Rowing have raised £100 for their club and attended a friendly at Runcorn where they repped #teamLJMU. They continually create a community feel for their members and include them in the running of the club, by doing things such as asking for and taking on feedback on training sessions.  We look forward to see how they continue to develop this year, already having gained an additional 20 members compared to last year. Congrats and have fun deciding how to use your £70 development prize!

Society of the Month- Conservation Society

Conservation received outstanding feedback from Merseyside Dogs Home after they raised the highest amount ever from a single collection event- £1,478!! A special shout goes out to Ella Woodcock who even went out and collected in the cold on her birthday! Conservation Soc continues to hold a wide range of events at socials that are inclusive to all members, of which they have 64 this year.  They’ve held Planet Earth II viewings, a weed whacking event and do weekly dog walks at a local shelter. Thanks for being great and always striving to make the world around you a better place- enjoy your £70!!

October 2016

Society of the Month- Forensic and Crime Science Society

FACSS have proven that organisation makes a great society! Kicking off with a fantastic Fresher’s Fair stall (with all committee members in matching t-shirts!) and up-to-date social media communication, they've managed an amazing 70 members in their first official year as a society. They've already organised 3 external speakers to come to talk to the society, boosting the employability of all their members, on their course and from across LJMU. They have a wide range of activities going on from crazy golf to pub quizzes. Definitely a society worth joining! Congratulations FACSS!

Club of the Month- Tennis

Tennis have really created a community atmosphere, with great communication on Facebook & Snapchat. Increasing their membership numbers this year has been easy, with an outreach event at Victoria Halls and their amazing presence at Fresher’s Fair. All their members have been able to get involved in the Ladder League, making the game competitive but fun and inclusive. Their dedication to the sport is obvious, with members playing tennis every day. Congratulations Tennis, keep being amazing!
